Nintendo took the world by storm when it announced the development of Pokémon Sleep, a mobile app using sleep-tracking data produced by Niantic, in May 2019. They claimed at the time that the app would use sleep-tracking data to modify gameplay and work with a peripheral device. 

Nintendo is now backing that up with further patent investment. Two patents were issued this week to support the gameplay, including a display device with a sensor to monitor sleep and a system to translate that information into their game. 

Nintendo may find that their system works very well, otherwise they may need to collaborate with an established sleep tracking company such as FitBit. Based on the patent specification, it would also not be a surprise to see Nintendo extending sleep data to other games as well.
