Matok V'Kal is an Israeli food manufacturer who has recently been making their way into sports nutrition. Earlier this year, they launched two products - an energy spray and a hot protein drink. The spray, which comes in a wearable container, claims to provide 75 minutes of energy with no caffeine and only six calories. The mint and carbohydrate compound coats the inside of the mouth.
The protein drink comes in single use cups that just require hot water to be added, and are the first hot protein drinks on the market.
The company recently filed their first patent application for the container which the spray is ejected from, part of which is a biodegradable material. Their foray into hot protein, however, may prove more interesting in the IP space. While most people associate protein drinks with being shaken in cold water, normally proteins coagulate when heated. The company has come up with a new formulation to overcome this, so it would not be a surprise to see new filings soon for this technology.
