Since 2015, Stora Enso has become a major player in the biodegradable packaging sector. The Finnish company, which is a manufacturer of pulp, paper and other forest products began investing heavily in biomaterials and renewable processes in 2015, shortly after Karl-Henrik Sundström took over as CEO.
Last week, Sundström announced that he is stepping down as CEO in Q1 2020. The company has multiple open applications, multiple of which were filed in just 2018, so it is possible that they will continue to move to provide more biodegradable packaging solutions, as this has provided them with significant revenue. However, depending on who is Sundström's successor - especially if they are an external hire, it is entirely possible that the company would pivot in a new direction in 2020.
