Companies want to flush down accusations of greenwashing

Biodegradable Packaging Patent Forecast®

May 9, 2019

The Canadian branch of Friends of the Earth, an international network of environmental organizations, is filing an application for the Competition Bureau to investigate "flushable" wipes after a recent study found contradictory evidence. Wipe manufacturers, such as Kimberly-Clark and Procter & Gamble which also happen to be top patent holders in the Biodegradable Packaging sector, have disputed the findings of the study in question and say there are other studies that show the wipes clogging sewers are not the ones sold as flushable. Both companies have numerous patents directed to water-soluble, biodegradable films, suggesting that they are heavily invested in their "flushable" wipe products and will be fighting back against these accusations of greenwashing.
