Guinness cans will soon get biodegradable packaging

Biodegradable Packaging Patent Forecast®

April 18, 2019

Diageo, the parent company of global beer brands such as Guinness and Harp Lager, will be investing $21 million to replace plastic ring carriers and shrink wrap with recyclable and biodegradable cardboard, which is the equivalent of removing 40 million plastic bottles from the world. Individual cans are already fully recyclable, so this is a big step towards making fully environmentally-friendly products. The new beer packs will become available in Ireland by August, and in Great Britain by the summer of 2020.  This move doesn't look difficult, as there are a lot of manufacturers of biodegradable cardboard. In fact, one could ask what took  them so long.
